Rev, Fr. David Amakye was born on 28th May, 1984 at Komfueku-Shama. He began his seminary formation at St. Mary’s boys Secondary/Minor Seminary, Apowa, from 2001 to 2003 and continued at St. Theresa’s Minor Seminary, Amisano, from 2004 to 2005. He then proceeded to St. Paul’s Catholic Seminary, Sowutuom from 2005 to 2008 for spirituality and study of philosophy. He entered St. Peter’s Regional Seminary, Pedu for his theological studies in 2008 and completed in 2013, where he obtained a BA Hons. in Sociology and the Study of Religions. He also holds a post Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast and a Bachelor of Theology from the Pontifical Urbaniana University, Rome.
He was ordained a deacon and a priest for Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese on 19th January, 2013 and 14th September, 2013 respectively, by Most Rev. Mattias Kobena Nketsiah, then Metropolitan Archbisohp of Cape Coast and Apostolic Administrator of Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese. Fr. Amakye was subsequently appointed the parochial vicar of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Apowa, where he served between 2013 and 2015. he served in the same capacity at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Tarkwa from 2015 to 2016.
Thereafter, he entered the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome from 2016 to 2019 and obtained a Licentiate in Moral Theology. He also pursued a course in Priestly Formation by the Congregation for the Clergy, Vatican, Rome, from 2018 to 2019.
Fr. Amakye assumed an appointment as a formator and lecturer of Moral Theology at St. Peter’s Regional Seminary, Pedu. He is the priest in charge of health-related issues in the seminary from 2019 to 2024.
